Discover the unkown middle ages
During a visit to Ammersoyen Castle, you'll discover that the Middle Ages may have been very different than you thought
what is fact and what is fiction? In Ammersoyen Castle you will discover the unknown Middle Ages! And very special: volunteers and archaeologists puzzle together the shards from the moat.
Castle Ammersoyen of Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen (GLK) is situated in the beautiful river landscape of the Bommelerwaard. It was built around 1300 and is one of the best preserved medieval castles in our country. During a visit you will learn all about the history and collection of this impressive castle and take a dive into the Middle Ages.
Wander around freely
In the castle you can wander freely and climb every staircase. You visit various tower rooms, the women's quarters, the armory and you can even take a look in the exciting "dungeon" and the brewing cellar where the original medieval brewing furnace was recently excavated.
Puzzling with shards
Be sure to take a look in the Shards Lab, where volunteers and archaeologists puzzle together the many thousands of shards found in the moat. You might even get to puzzle along!
End your visit on the terrace of the Koetshuis with a drink or lunch. In the castle grounds enjoy the medieval herb garden and in the hop garden see all the ingredients grown for brewing beer.
