Museum van de 20e eeuw

Feast of recognition / language: no problem

Museum van de 20e Eeuw in Hoorn tells about life in the last century through hundreds of objects and dozens of interiors. How did our (grand)parents live? What toys did children play with? What kind of stores were there? How was cooking done? What did people do in their spare time? What was on the radio or television?

After all, a lot has changed in the last hundred years, at home, at work, at school, in stores. Dive into your own past and that of your (grand)parents and marvel at the many developments.

Feast of recognition

Although you will sometimes be surprised at what has changed in the twentieth century, you will also recognize much. That old living room is reminiscent of Grandma's room. Father rode around on that moped for years. I used to play with these toys too, and that radio was in our home!

Museum van de 20e Eeuw is a true feast of recognition. You will discover fun objects from the past, but also learn about poverty, hard and long work and simple living conditions. Never before has so much changed in one century as in the twentieth century! A century that gave everyone more free time, made everyone more mobile, just think of cars and bicycles, a century that let us communicate all over the world and changed our society drastically.

Museum for all

Young and old alike recognize things in this museum. For some it is the construction toy Meccano, for others the orange enamel pots and pans. The first game computer with Pong or the old VCR with piano keys perhaps. The interior of the Grutter store or the haberdashery. The sink in the old bathroom or the coal stove in the 1950s living room. There are recognizable nostalgic objects for all visitors to view. Often in a striking arrangement like an old classroom, a shopping street or a kitchen interior.

Exhibitions

The Museum shows the many developments of the twentieth century in a large number of permanent displays, but also has constantly changing exhibitions in three rooms. So there is always something new to discover.
