Robert Icke is considered the great talent of the British stage. He has a great heart for classical repertoire, which he adapts in a personal and radical way. As house director at ITA, he also wrote and directed Oedipus (after Sophocles), Children of Nora (a sequel to A Doll's House by Ibsen) and the Bible-based Judas.

A girl lies dying in a hospital room. A priest wants to enter, but her doctor won't allow it. This is also how Professor Bernhardi from 1912 by Austrian playwright and general practitioner Arthur Schnitzler, on which The Doctor Loose is based. In Robert Icke's adaptation, the Jewish doctor Bernhardi has become a woman: the Jewish-secular Ruth Wolff. In addition, Icke has added the complexity of external opinions and relationships as a narrative engine. Racial prejudice and hidden agendas make Dedokter a thriller in which clashing views of ourselves and the world form an explosive cocktail.

The Doctor was selected for the Dutch Theatre Festival 2022 as one of the best 12 performances of the previous season. Actresses Janni Goslinga and Ilke Paddenburg were nominated for the Theo d'or and Colombina respectively.
